Executive Director
Katy Hilbert joined YouthBASE in July 2024, bringing with her 12 years of nonprofit leadership. She has spent her entire career in the nonprofit sector-- focusing on empowering staff and volunteers to advocate for children and families facing significant challenges. Katy is a lifelong learner. She holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Georgia, completed UGA's Executive Leadership Program for Nonprofit Organizations, as well as Loyola University Chicago Children’s Law & Policy Executive Program. In her free time, Katy enjoys spending time with family and friends, knitting or cross-stitching, and listening to true crime podcasts.
Site Director
Syanya Valdovinos, Site Director, joined YouthBASE in March 2022 after a year working as a volunteer tutor. She is bilingual and holds a bachelor’s degree in Community Health and Human Services and a certificate in Nonprofit Management. Her over nine years of work experience include working with children with severe behavioral diagnoses at Brain Balance and most recently at A Child’s Haven. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology with a Minor in Early Childhood Education from Lehman College in Bronx, New York.
Lead Academic Instructor
Rosa started working with YouthBASE as a volunteer in 2019 and joined the staff in 2020. She holds a B.S. in Biology from Shenandoah University and prior to joining the team at YouthBASE, worked for 10+ years in the environmental education field. She loves teaching and is always looking for ways to incorporate her science background into her work at YouthBASE. Rosa lives in Greenville with her husband and enjoys hiking, trips to the coast, crossword puzzles, and good coffee.
Café de Madres Coordinator
Logan began working at YouthBASE as Café de Madres Coordinator in 2016. She has a B.A. from Wofford College in Spanish and International Business and a M.Ed. from Clemson University in School Counseling. Prior to joining the team she worked as a school counselor and a non-profit program coordinator. She loves speaking Spanish and supporting the mothers in our community! She lives in Greenville with her husband and three children and enjoys reading, being outside, and chasing her kids around town.
Communications & Development Coordinator
Katrina started working with YouthBASE in the fall of 2023. She has a B.S. in Psychology from Furman and an M.S. in Marketing from the University of Denver. Katrina has previously worked as a paralegal’s assistant, content writer for a wellness nonprofit, and as a consumer researcher. She is passionate about working with non-profits that provide support for vulnerable populations. Katrina resides in Greenville with her husband, where she likes to go on walks on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, test out new recipes, & explore different coffee shops.
Lead Writing Instructor
Nicole Salazar joined YouthBASE in 2023 as the Lead Writing Teacher. Graduated from Macalester College, she has several years of experience in the education field by serving in nonprofits like Breakthrough Twin Cities and ReadingCorps. She currently resides in Greenville and in her spare time likes to crochet and look at the stray cats in the area.
