Interning at YouthBASE was an incredible experience. The students were full of energy and curious about the world, and I cherished the time I spent with them. It was so rewarding to see the kids improve in academics and gain confidence in themselves over the course of the summer. I also noticed growth in my own confidence and teaching abilities, which will be valuable in my future career. I hope the grant works out because I would absolutely be interested in continuing as an intern!
Being an intern at YouthBASE this summer has been more impactful than I ever could have expected. Getting to support these kids and build relationships with them is something truly special. Through this experience, I have learned the importance of patience, consistency, and empathy that I would not have otherwise. I would highly recommend interning at YouthBASE to anyone looking to serve the Greenville community and work with some great kids!
My last summer as a college student is one that I will never forget. I have never experienced such a unique combination of love, gratitude, fulfillment, and exhaustion. I have worked with kids since I was old enough to have a job, but this internship at YouthBASE offered a much more meaningful experience than my prior opportunities. Throughout the duration of the summer program, I was able to connect with all 21 students and learn fun facts from their favorite color and snack to their dreams and goals in life. Never was I asked to complete a task that did not have the kids’ needs at heart. Was I exhausted at the end of the day? Yes, keeping energetic kids entertained and attentive is no easy task. Would I change anything about how I spent my summer? Absolutely not. It was a memorable summer, and I will never forget the staff and students that touched my heart.
